New York Associate Board

City Year New York’s Associate Board was founded in 2007 as a means by which professionals could engage with and support City Year’s service work through fundraising and volunteerism. Since then, board members have become powerful mentors for the corps, hosted incredible fundraising events, and helped the organization to build its brand.

Jen Gautier (she/her/hers) attended a fundraising event, and an AmeriCorps member gave a "day in the life" presentation that she found very moving.

"I have an appreciation for the support I had when I was a student, which, as an adult, I realize was a real privilege that many students do not enjoy."

Camille Bowman (she/hers) was looking for an opportunity to give back to her community and meet other like-minded individuals when she joined CYNY's Associate Board. Her parents are involved with the organization in Boston, which has allowed her to see firsthand the benefits of the City Year model for all involved. Previously, Camille ran a tutoring program for elementary school students in college, which fostered an appreciation for the privileges afforded by high-quality education. She is looking forward to carrying this passion forward and continuing to support K-12 education through her role on the CYNY board.

Hannah Brock CYNY associate board
Hannah Brock
Deloitte Consulting

Hannah Brock (she/hers) found the Associate Board was a great way to get more involved with City Year outside of work and to meet other young professionals passionate about education equity! Her interest in the organization came through the Deloitte and City Year partnership because education is extremely important and every New Yorker should have access to the level of public schooling she did.

He joined the New York Associate Board to help a team passionate about supporting City Year’s mission through fundraising projects, philanthropic initiatives, volunteerism, and engaging with AmeriCorps members through mentorship and professional development. City Year came up on his radar as he was thinking about various opportunities to get involved in the education nonprofit ecosystem. As he continued to learn more about the mission and strategic initiatives of CYNY, he was drawn to the impact the organization has on student efficacy and New York City public schools more broadly.

City Year’s mission to create an infrastructure with public schools, educators, and young civic leaders supporting students who lack access to fundamental learning environments and resources, has resonated with Duane on a deeply personal level. He's always thought of education as means to sustainable, long-term success, and the impact that CYNY has on students, families, and communities at large is something.

City Year is an organization that impacts students, teachers, parents, school systems, and communities. The work that corps members do every day can foster meaningful relationships with students.
